Team-ups to consider #008

300 points, no shared keyword, but tactic basics are present - Outwit, Prob, Perplex, and later Defend. Two shooters and two brawlers, Charge and Super Strength and Running Shot and Penetrating/Psychic Blast and later Precision Strike. A potentially elegant team.

Just wanted to point out here how Alexis is shaping up as the new WATX Oracle, or the new DEADPOOL Mercy, or almost like the new CHAOS WAR FF Scarlet Witch - a cheap Probber, Perplexer, Barrier builder, flying carrier, and Defend-granter. Definitely one could do well to have two of her in a team.

Starting to feel really good about my pulls. No one really special by way of SRs and Chases, but so far with the boosters I've pulled and the two figs I got from the drafting, I've made four tight 300-point build teams. Not too bad.

Battle Report Short #007

Classic Avengers VS two Ant-Men, Victor Mancha, and the Protector. Both teams are Avengers keyworded, but the Protector has Prob for around four of his clicks. The Ant-Men are a boon at prepping a killbox with their Pym Particles power to resize friendlies. All figs have Sidestep, and when resized, all figs can have +1 for the Defense for ranged attacks.

Captain America has a very good special power where he gives Avengers-keyworded friendlies a free move action, so when his teammates have Charge or Running Shot, that's a potential free attack move on top of another attack move.

Protector rolled a couple of crithits against Captain America, killing him in two turns, but Iron Man and Hulk laid waste to Mancha and the Ant-Men. Protector tried his best out-moving Iron Man and Hulk, but Iron Man called for back-up twice - one for Nova's special Pulse Wave, then another for Classic Iron Man's Running Shot+Penetrating/Psychic Blast. Both teams performed well, but one was just a bit tougher than the other.

AOU SLOP Brick 1 Wave 1 Tourney

Played the first AOU SLOP tourney. Format was two boosters, sealed, 400 points. Managed to pull these guys for a solid 400, Avengers keyworded, Attack and Damage reducers, two Outwitters, one Probber, four themed team probs, decent Defense topped off by shared ESD.

I got the bye-win for the first round (so I got the map), got my ass kicked by a team centered on an Ultron Colossal Chase (the guy eventually won overall), and managed to do fairly well against a team centered on a Black Panther SR.

The rolls were good to me, too, as I kept rolling for Hulk (instead of Banner), rolled an average of six for Attacks, rolled three crithits, as (more importantly) my opponent rolled unProbbable four critmisses the whole game. Iron Man and Hulk were great with their first attack reducers, and they also work great as secondary attackers. Hercules was made for tie-ups, but he needs a more decent support piece behind him (maybe two Alexises), but Protector did well with his Prob and Defend (in fact, that Defend made significant contributions to my one win). That one win brought me right smack dab in the middle ranking.

Here are my pulls from the sealed and the drafting, also with the OP map and the Round Table resource and Iron Man ID. No dupes except for Ant-Man! Hoping I'll do better next month.

Battle Report Short #006

Hadn't played in three weeks so I felt my gaming was a bit rusty, and I was rolling 5s on average on the dice, so I was surprised I won last night's game against the Black Panther and the Silver Centurion with the weird torpedo terrain marker token, all empowered by the Phoenix Force. Hulk was an absolute beast throughout the game, even with the low rolls. Needs some refinement, but still glorious.

Battle Report: Hulkbuster VS the Hulk

Build:

*300 points
* AOU gravfeed Hulkbuster at 300 points
* AOU gravfeed Hulk at 300 points

Map:

* The Street Battle map from AVENGERS FCBD starter kit with five papercraft cars

Report:

Played best 2 out of 3 games, and surprisingly, the Hulk won both without much difficulty. The unhalved Charge with Super Strength allowed him to hit Hulkbuster with 9 damage at 13 attack, that Hulkbuster can only reduce to 6.

And whenever Hulkbuster's own halved-Charge and Exploit Weakness did manage to damage the Hulk, it was only for 5 damage (for some reason, Hulkbuster doesn't have Super Strength), and whenever Hulk chooses Hulkbuster to attack again (Hulkbuster's AVENGERS ASSEMBLE trait), Hulk's stopclick kicks in, clears all his tokens, gathers two Anger tokens which he can use to pump his Regen result, putting him back up to at least his fifth click (a click less than half his dial). The second fight even resulted in the Hulk's dial just hopping from seventh click to fourth click to seventh click to fifth click and this cycled out at least for four turns - if you get the right rolls, this can make Hulk effectively immortal.

I plan to run this match again with Hulkbuster at 225 points with the Red Lantern Battery as a proxy Veronica with at least Decoy, Nurse, and Stop Sign as Constructs, with the Battery providing potential Probs and Perplexes. We shall see!

Battle Report: Hulk, Angela, Maria Hill, and Rocket Raccoon with Utility Belt VS Shang Chi, Smasher, Captain America, and Manifold with Nova as ID Cavalry

Build:

* 400 points

* My team: AOU starter Hulk at 150 points, GOTG Angela, CA:WS Maria Hill, and GOTG movie starter Rocket Raccoon with full Utility Belt

* Opponent's team: DEADPOOL Shang Chi, AvAs Smasher, AOU starter Captain America, AvAs Manifold, and AvAs Nova as ID cavalry

Map:
* The Canadian Wilderness map from GSX (I think!).

Report:

I roll for initiative and Rocket Raccoon piggybacks on Angela who then piggybacks on Hulk who then moves to the halfway point of the map to elevated terrain overlooking the valley to set up a killbox.

Manifold then Carries all of his teammates to the middle of the valley, looking up at my team.

Maria Hill then draws line of fire through Manifold and Outwits Shang Chi's Combat Reflexes. Angela Charges down adjacent to him and hits with 3 damage. Hulk Charges, picks up a heavy object to hit Shang Chi with, but misses. Rocket Raccoon then takes a power action and snipes Shang Chi for 3 damage, killing him. Rocket then takes another shot, now at Captain America, but he misses. He then Outwits Smasher's Super Strength.

Captain America then Charges Angela, successfully hitting her. Smasher follows it up with her own Charge against Angela, effectively killing her. Manifold clears.

Rocket then Outwits Smasher's Invulnerability then snipes her twice from afar, killing her. Maria Hill draws line of fire through Manifold and Outwits Cap's damage power. Rocket rolls for the Utility Belt. Hulk tries to smash Cap, but Manifold Probs the attack, and Hulk misses.

Manifold summons Barrier to block Rocket's line of fire. Cap merely clears.

Maria Hill then draws line of fire through Cap to Outwit Manifold's Prob. The grapnel gun in the Utility Belt is active, so Rocket uses it to hop across the valley to the ice butte in the middle of the valley. Rocket then Outwits Cap's Toughness, then Hulk revs up to hit him, which refuses to connect. Rocket rolls for the Utility Belt, lands on a +2 dial for all his combat values.

Cap activates his 6-square-adjacency close combat attack and hits Rocket for 3 damage. Manifold merely clears. Maria Hill takes another power action and Outwits Manifold's Prob, then Rocket snipes Manifold for 5 damage, killing him. Rocket takes his second ranged attack and snipes Cap for 4 damage, which Hulk follows up with another 3 damage, effectively smashing the personification of the American Spirit of Democracy down to the icy ground of a valley tundra somewhere in Canada.

Winner:

My team. Once the killbox was set up, Cap, Smasher, et al, simply had no space to move through with all the Outwits and Rocket's two ranged attacks per turn. Hulk's rolls were consistently low, but it counted when it finally hit, and he proved to be an effective sponge and tie-up piece.
